Exterior shutters can
add a charming touch to the outside of any home. Exterior vinyl shutters
not only look nice, but are also resilient. They can make a great choice
when you decide to purchase exterior window
shutters. It is possible
to get a shutter practically any shape and size to adorn the outside
of the home. Companies like Levelor and American
Blinds offer exterior
shutters to fit almost any taste.
Shutters are,
for the most part, merely decorative. Most people do not actually
shut their exterior window shutters. This is because with window
treatments located on the inside of the house, there really isn’t
much need for shutters outdoors. Much of the time, it is not even
possible to close a shutter located on the outside of the house.
Most of the time these shutters are merely attached to the outside
of the home for the look, rather than any practical purpose. Notable
exceptions, however, are found in hurricane
prone areas along the
U.S. coasts. Many of these homes have closable exterior shutters
that are rated for storm protection. These can protect windows
and homes in the event of a storm with high winds.
The choice of exterior vinyl shutters
Exterior window shutters come in vinyl, wood or aluminum. Vinyl
is an increasingly popular choice because of its durability and easy
care. Aluminum is also durable and low maintenance, but it is not
as energy efficient. While it does not matter when decorative shutters
are being used, shutters that are used to cover windows can be insulators.
Aluminum is a poor insulator, even though it is very strong. A vinyl
shutter will do the job almost as well, and be more energy efficient.
Exterior vinyl shutters are durable, and, unlike wood, will not
chip, crack, peel or warp. They do not expand and contract with changing
weather conditions, nor do they absorb the moisture that can cause
wood to swell. Because of their many qualities, young first time
home owners are using vinyl more and more in the construction of
their homes. By choosing vinyl, one can ensure an attractive exterior,
while reaping many other benefits, from exterior shutters.
