Faux wood window blinds are a
great alternative to a wooden blind. This is because faux wood blinds look almost
exactly like wood, but do not have to be so scrupulously cared for. Faux
wood shutters and blinds, found at dealers like Levelor, are more durable than their
real wood counter parts, and are, in fact, more versatile in many ways. When
one wants the look of wood for the home, but does not wish to pay the higher
price in money as well as in time and energy, faux wood window blinds are a great
option.
What are faux wood blinds?
Faux
wood blinds are blinds
that look like wood. Faux means “fake.” Faux
wood shutters and blinds are fake wood. It means that it looks like wood, but
is really made from vinyl or aluminum. Most of the time, however, faux wood
blinds are made from vinyl. Micro blinds are widely available in aluminum,
and many aluminum blinds boast a dent free construction that allows the slats
to “pop” back into their proper shape after being bent. They
do this without leaving the dent that appears so often when vinyl blinds
are bent. The main benefit of faux wood window blinds is that they do
not require the same rigorous and constant care associated with wood.
Wood is a material that is very vulnerable to conditions. It can dry out easily,
if not properly cared for, causing it to crack and split. It also fades in
color if not shined and sealed. Additionally, wood absorbs moisture and can
just as easier swell or warp. This causes a rather ugly change in wood. Unless
properly sealed and regularly maintained, wood will become quite unattractive.
Wood blinds cannot be cleaned with ordinary soap and water. These products
are not good for the wood, and can hasten its deterioration. Vinyl, on the
other hand, can be cleaned rather easily with soap and water. Additionally,
vinyl will not warp and swell, nor will it crack or split. This makes it much
more durable. Faux wood blinds made from vinyl will look nicer for much longer
than real wood. Therefore, if you like the way wood looks, but do not wish
to hassle with caring for it, you might consider faux wood window blinds.
