Honeycomb
shades are a different type of shade that can change the texture of
the light in a room. Honeycomb blinds look much like regular
blinds, but are made of fabric, rather than vinyl or wood.
The first shade of this type was made by Duette shades, the
brand owned by Hunter Douglas. They use a honeycomb shape,
where the shades get their names. Honeycomb shades have a highly
energy efficient construction.
What are honeycomb blinds?
Honeycomb blinds are uniquely constructed with a honeycomb
shape. The lift like blinds, but do not have the same sort
of slat adjustment. They are made of fabric, giving the light
that enters the room a softer feel. In fact, the thickness
of the fabric affects the quality of the light. Many Duette
shades come in grades ranging from sheer to opaque. It is
even possible to get honeycomb shades in semi sheer and semi
opaque. The more opaque the fabric used, the dimmer the room.
However, even at the most opaque, honeycomb blinds often
let in quite a bit of soft, ambient lighting. Additionally,
when you choose coloured fabrics, you can subtly change the
colour of the light in the room, allowing for a light blue
or pink or yellow (or whichever) colour to permeate and illuminate
the room. This can change the mood of the room, giving it
a more comfortable feel.
Not only does this type of shade provide a nice touch to
the home, but it is also very energy efficient. The honeycomb
construction can be in single, double or triple. The presence
of these fabric shades can add another barrier between the
inhabitants of the house, and the weather outside. They make
good insulators. Because they are fabric, these blinds can
actually help with sound dampening as well.
Duette
shades also strive to offer different options for the lift
of the blinds. It can be worrisome to have strings hanging
down, and some manufacturers of honeycomb blinds, like
Hunter Douglas, sell string less blinds that can be raised
automatically with the touch of a button on the wall. If
you are looking for a beautiful lighting option, you can’t
go wrong with honeycomb shades.
