A
window blind serves a very important purpose in providing privacy and keeping
out light. However, blinds for windows come in a variety of materials at a wide
range of prices. Choosing a window blind that suits both your desire for rich
looking window treatments, but also fits your budget is the challenge – one
that can easily be overcome by knowing what to look for.
Cheap Window Blinds
There’s “cheap” and then there is inexpensive. You want
to find low cost blinds that don’t look cheap. Levelor is one manufacturer
that offers moderately priced blinds that look like they cost a fortune. One
of the most important things to look for is quality construction. Any material
can be used in an inexpensive window blind, but if it isn’t properly
constructed, it won’t take any time at all to look broken down
and just plain cheap.
The better made window blinds, whether made of aluminium or plastic will have
a good mechanism in a strong head rail that will allow the blinds to go up and down smoothly. Also check to see that when you turn the rod to open or
close the slats that the move all together in the same direction. Poorer quality
blinds will get the slats tangled more easily.
Other Blinds for your
Windows
There are other styles
of window blinds that are a little more costly, but will last longer and
stay looking their best from year to year. These blinds are usually made
of wood or even fabric. The wood blinds are the most durable, where fabric
cellular shade type blinds can be more easily damaged by small children or
even a cat’s claws. Wood blinds will withstand much more
handling and still look as good as new.
The highest priced and fanciest blinds are those with added mechanical bells
and whistles. This includes single button opening and closing and lifting and
lowering. Many come with remote controls to do the job. This is especially
ideal if the windows are extra large or if you just like to sit with the TV
remote control in one hand and then use the blind remote control to darken
the room while lowering the window blind.
